Mrs. Sharmon Greene, AccompanistSharmon Ferrell Greene began studying piano just before the age of five with Esther Fields Davies of Joliet, IL and continued with her through high school. She then continued her studies at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in piano performance from the American Conservatory of Music in 1977. Her piano teachers included Ralph Patterson, Virgil Smith, Rose Willits, and Jasna Biankini. Several years later, she studied four years with Gil Mead. Sharmon also studied voice in high-school, college, and post college with Harry Heun, Vann Trapp, and Terry Strandt.
It was her privilege to accompany her first musical, "Snow White" (performed and directed by the sixth grade class), when she was in the first grade. While in elementary, jr. high, and high-school, she accompanied for several school specials, band students, high-school general choir, madrigals, swing choir, and school musicals. She has been a church pianist since age sixteen. In more recent years and currently, she has again accompanied for musicals (high-school and university levels), choirs in four schools (intermediate through college level), solo and ensemble students for both middle school and high-school, and voice and band students for recitals. Mrs. Greene has taught private piano in her home since 1978, teaching all ages, beginner through advanced. For the last two years and currently, it has been her privilege to also teach lessons during choir breaks at the Stagg High-school in Palos Hills, IL. One very special treat was to examine her own accompanying skills and teach them to one of her students in order for him to substitute for her at a choir concert! She delights in helping others on their musical journey. |
